Introduction

THRICE-FORGED RPG COMBAT GUIDE

I’m in the final editing stages, before it’s off to the editor, of my Thrice-Forged RPG combat guide. Progress is slow, of course, because I’m a one-man development team, but I try to keep the quality high. I’ve recently gotten some good reviews on Drivethrurpg for my offerings, and the Player’s Guide sales have been light but consistent.

(The Quickplay and first adventure are free, and if anyone is interested let me know and I’ll set a complimentary copy of the Player’s Guide to you. I just need your email to do so.)

When I was in my 20’s I designed several RPGs, none of which made it to publication, and to be honest they weren’t that strong. Now, many a moon later, I’m doing something different. It’s based on history, or at least fantasy history, and it’s simplified. My goal in my youth of making the most completist game ever is long past, and now I prefer broad strokes, if you know what I mean.

I entered this arena reluctantly. Based on my work on World Anvil, I got some good offers from several respected publishers to bring Aorlis there. The terms were even beneficial. But, I couldn’t see myself writing for their game systems. I didn’t like them, or the rules sets were too busy for me. They just didn’t fit.

Going my own route means obscurity. I develop systems as I can, and I don’t have an advertising budget. I don’t have a core of players to cater to, nor a crack design team. But, I do have independence, the ability to pursue my own vision, and something that is 100% my own.

I’ve done most of my work, be it comics, art, novels, etc. in relative obscurity. I had a good following in the comic book realm, but greater acceptance has eluded me to date. Will Thrice-Forged RPG tilt that balance? Well, hope lives on.
